Journey of Faith begin in 2014 combining the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations of St. James and St. Paul.
Led by interim pastors, Rev. Laura Ingersol and Rev. Jerrett Hansen, the combined churches began to embrace its new identity as they spent time in prayer and discernment on how they would function as a body of Christ. Deciding on the name Harmony, they strove to be a multi-cultural ministry welcoming all God's children. With its new identity and new name, something was still missing.
After much prayer, it was decided that Harmony was not the name for this ministry going forward. In 2015 the name was changed to Journey of Faith Church. Rev. Ingersol and Rev. Hanson continued to lead and help develop the ministry as we begin to search for a new pastor.
In May 2016, Journey of Faith called Rev. Patrick Gahagen from Detroit, Michigan to serve as our Pastor. Rev. Gahagen leads with the gifts of preacher and teacher. Rev. Gahagen joined us along with his wife Michelle, two children, Zaniah and Zachary. We are excited to be on this Journey as we continue to grow in our faith, our love, and our service to God.
Originally constructed in 1956 as St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the largest space in the building was designed for a different time and era of gathering for community. The immoveable pews and inflexible layout of the “sanctuary” precluded the space for use outside of the 1 hour and 1/2 Sunday worship time. So with a love for the mission of Jesus Christ and our eyes fixed on the future before us, Journey of Faith recreated the worship space to embody the core values of Adaptable, Creative, Inclusive and Inviting.
The addition of vibrant colors, moveable chairs (comfortable ones at that), an upgraded audio and video system, creative area rugs, joyful banners and a state-of-the-art sound booth have brought those core values to life. The Open Journey campaign and renovations are a real life demonstration to Journey of Faith’s commitment of being open to the Holy Spirit and inviting of ALL God’s children to gather for worship, service and love.
On June 20, 2024 we were able to worship in the Community Space for the first time. The spirit of God was definitely present as we celebrated this new space. We are excited to see how God will use this space to serve our community!
